Norma Jean Atwood

Norma Jean Atwood, age 91, of Muskegon, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 17, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Born March 14, 1935, in Muskegon, Michigan, to Fred and Grace (Lawback) Ramsburg, Norma was a lifelong resident of the area. On October 20, 1956, she married the love of her life, Albert Charles Atwood, after a memorable meeting at a local roller-skating rink. Norma dedicated her life to her family as a homemaker. In 1986, Norma and Albert were involved in a tragic accident caused by a drunk driver; Albert passed away that day, and Norma's life changed forever. Though she never drove or worked outside the home, Norma's resilience shone through as she continued to live independently for many years.

Known for her feisty spirit and childlike charm in her later years, she found joy in simple pleasures such as roller skating in her youth, playing Yahtzee, and taking trips to casinos-especially her beloved Little River Casino where her infectious laughter and winning streaks were fondly remembered by family and friends. She loved Diet Coke and candy bars, and was affectionately known as a "Little River Lutheran" for her frequent and joyful trips to the casino. She was known for her legendary luck, once winning back to back jackpots on the same machine! She had a special talent for making friends wherever she went and will be remembered for her unique way with words and her childlike spirit. Above all, she cherished her family, especially her grandchildren, who were the light of her life.

Norma's memory will be cherished by her children, Michael (Cathy) Atwood and Carol (Jim) Thompson; her grandchildren, Tiffany (Jeremy) Harris, Jennifer (Travis) Hildebrand, Chad (Alicia) DeCheney, and Andrew (Nichol) DeCheney; and her great-grandchildren, Skyler, Cole, Myles, Lyla, Grayson, and Jasper. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Albert; her son, David Atwood; her grandson, Jeremy Atwood; and her sister, Marjorie Farmer.

A funeral service to celebrate Norma's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 24, 2026, at Clock Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior, beginning at 10:00 AM. A luncheon will immediately follow the service. Interment will take place at Restlawn Cemetery.
