Mr. Nelson W. Scott, age 82, passed away Monday evening, January 14, 2008. He was born May 29, 1925 in Muskegon to Oliver and Marie (DeJonge) Scott and had been a life-long resident. Mr. Scott served our country in the U.S. Navy Seabees during WWII. Following the war, he worked as a celery farmer until 1977. He then owned and operated Scott's Greenhouses for 13 years before retiring in 1990. Mr. Scott was a charter member of Olivet Reformed Church, where he had served as an Elder, Deacon, and choir member. He enjoyed wood carving, belonging to the Grand Haven Whirlers Square Dance Club, traveling with the Happy Wanderers Travel Trailer Club, and being a member of the Sherman Moore American Legion Post #297 in Ravenna. He was also a member of DeColores en Cristo. On January 17, 1948, he married the former Genevieve Medema in Muskegon and she survives him along with 3 children, Marie (Robert) Brown of Grand Ledge, MI, James (Cheryl) Scott of Muskegon, Brian (Kimberly) Scott of North Muskegon; 7 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Dorothy Wood, Betty (Bill) Osborn both of Muskegon. He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 sisters. SERVICES will be 11:00 AM Thursday at Olivet Reformed Church with Rev. Russell K. Camp officiating. Burial will be in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. VISITATION with the family will be from 6-9 PM today at The Sytsema Chapel Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 737 Apple Ave. (231) 726-5210 and one hour prior to the service at the church. MEMORIALS to the Olivet Reformed Church Elevator Fund or LOVE, Inc. will be appreciated.
