Mr. Charles J. Neir, age 90, died November 15, 2006 in Muskegon, MI. He was born in Ypsilanti, Michigan on November 19, 1915 to Charles and Vera (Savage) Neir, married Irene Justine Bessyngier on August 24, 1940; and moved to Muskegon. They recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. Mr. Neir graduated from Michigan State Normal College (Eastern Michigan University) in 1937 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He taught math at Houghton Lake High School from 1937 to 1940, taught math and drafting at Muskegon Heights Junior High School from 1940 to 1945 and 1957 to 1960, worked evenings and weekends at Norge for two years during WWII, was a Tool Designer from 1945 to 1954 at Continental Motors, and taught math at Muskegon Heights High School from 1954 to 1957 and 1960 to 1962. He completed his career as a drafting and math instructor at Muskegon Community College from 1963 until retiring in 1970. Mr. Neir was active in the Jaycees Junior Chamber of Commerce in Muskegon from 1943 to 1949. Mr. and Mrs. Neir and their son were founding and charter members of Lake Harbor Methodist Church in 1956. Both Mr. and Mrs. Neir loved to travel and were active in the Airstream Wally Byam Caravan Club for over 35 years. They also had a winter home at Travelers Rest in the Dade City/Brooksville area of Florida for 20 years. Mr. Neir's hobbies included building furniture, woodcarving, golf, and dancing. He is survived by his wife, Irene; his son, Charles and his wife, Kathie;` and grandchildren, CJ and Todd of Sammamish, WA; and sister, Marian Mahard of Granville, Ohio.
