Mr. Shaw Walker, 95, passed away August 12, 2009 at his North Muskegon residence. He was born in Muskegon on February 25, 1914 to Louis C. and Margaret Mercer Walker. After graduating from the Hotchkiss School in Lakeville, Connecticut, he went on to receive a BA in Economics from Yale University in 1937. Mr. Walker served as a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was employed at The Shaw-Walker Company in Muskegon for over forty years in numerous positions, ultimately as president and CEO. He was an exceptional golfer, an avid outdoorsman, a classic boat enthusiast, and as all those who knew him would agree... a true gentleman. His philanthropy and generosity throughout Michigan were significant, particularly in Muskegon, his lifelong home. Mr. Walker was predeceased by his sisters, Jane McKinney and Margaret Spofford, and daughter, Amy Walker. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Betty Richardson Walker; sons, Louis C. Walker II, Shaw Walker Jr., Stuart Walker, and Bruce Walker; and five grandchildren. Visitation will be Sunday, August 16th, 1-4 PM and Monday, August 17th, 1-4 PM at Clock Funeral Home in Muskegon. In keeping with Mr. Walker's wishes there will be no memorial service. A private committal at Evergreen Cemetery will take place at a later date.
