Mildred Martyniek, age 85, passed away Thursday, August 28, 2008, at a local hospital. She was born December 30, 1922, in Chicago, IL, to John and Pauline (Gaba) Flaska, and she married Walter Martyniek on December 19, 1938, in Grand Haven. He preceded her in death on February 16, 1998. Mrs. Martyniek owned and operated Taylor Rental with her husband, Walter, and had also worked at Gardner Denver for many years. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Spring Lake and in the past had enjoyed dancing at the Fruitport Pavilion and dune buggy riding at their cabin up north. She loved bowling and was a former member of the Women's Bowling League. She was also the top Wii bowler at Pebble Brook, where she resided. Mildred also enjoyed boating and snow-mobiling, and she was known for her delicious pies. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her family. Survivors include her two daughters, Diane (Bruce) Broersma of Grand Rapids and Lynda (Tony) Rogalski of East Lansing; her son, Wally (Melissa) Martyniek of Grand Haven; seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her two step-brothers, Robert and Tony Hodal, and her step-father, Tony Hodal, Sr. The Funeral Liturgy for Mildred will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 2, 2008, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Spring Lake with Rev. Leonard Sudlik as celebrant. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Lake Forest Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Mildred's name may be made to the Harbor Humane Society or the American Heart Association.
