Mildred Gilbert

Mrs. Mildred L. Gilbert, age 85, passed away on Thursday, June 28, 2007 at Woodside Hospice House, Largo, FL. Mildred was the only child of Leslie and Amelia Fontaine, born March 24, 1922 in Memphis TN. She lived in New Madrid, MO until she was 19, then moved to Muskegon, MI where she worked at Neisner's Dime Store, Continental Motors, Bud Brimmer Floral, and Krautheim Jewelers. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Ladies of the Elks Club in Muskegon and Largo, FL. She enjoyed cooking, antiques, fine china, and collectibles. She also enjoyed travel and bargain hunting. She was married to George Avdek who preceded her in death along with oldest son, Michael. On July 12, 1977 she married Carl Gilbert with whom she enjoyed two wonderful years until his death. Survivors include children: 2 sons, Mark (Linda) Avdek of Largo, FL and Brian (Karen) Avdek of Muskegon, MI; a daughter, Michelle Avdek of Grants Pass, OR; and 5 grandchildren, Michael, Nathaniel, Anastasia, and Justin Avdek of Muskegon, and Veronica Hulseman of Cedar Falls, IA. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 10, 2007, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Fr. Jack LaGoe presiding. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mildred's name may be made to Hospice of Muskegon.
