Michael Donald Thomas, 64, went to be with his Lord Sunday, March 11, 2012. He was born in Muskegon, MI to Richard and Mildred (Stewart) Thomas, and had been a resident of the area all of his life. He served his country during the Vietnam Era in the US Navy, and otherwise worked for Howmet/Misco of Muskegon, until his retirement from Alcoa Corporation in Whitehall. He was a member of McGraft Memorial Congregational Church and had served in various positions of leadership. When his heath enabled him, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, lawn and gardening, hockey, coaching youth sports, camping, auto racing, old-time radio shows. He enjoyed vacations with his family and time with his children and grandchildren, even when it became difficult. The family of Michael wishes to thank the wonderful staff and volunteers of Harbor Hospice for their loving care; his final days were filled with peace and freedom from pain due to their gifted attentions. SURVIVORS He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Cynthia (Morrow); children, Gregory (Helen) Thomas, Andrea (Gordon) Peters, Rachael (Steven) VanDeWal; grandchildren, Zachary Thomas, Alec Thomas, Lindsay (Tyler) Hall, Nichole Peters, Charles VanDeWal; step-grandchildren, Ryan Courtland, Brooke Courtland, Tyler Riggs; brothers, Tom (Shirley), Norman, Timothy (Linda); sisters, Ann (Dick) Markgraf, Barbara Randall, Judy (Dan) Riley, Cathy French; many nieces and nephews; father-in-law, Raymond Morrow, sisters-in-law, Christine (Joe) Stewart, Susan Groulx. He was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Mildred; siblings, Patricia, Lionel, Marvin; mother-in-law, Corinne; brothers-in-law, Bobby Latsch, Gerald Randall. MEMORIAL SERVICE Friday, March 16, 2012, 11:00 AM at McGraft Memorial Congregational Church with Rev. Dr. Gerald Wahr officiating. VISITATION Thursday, 6-8 PM at Clock Life Story Funeral Home-Muskegon and Friday, 1 hour prior to the service at the church. MEMORIAL: Donations can be made to Harbor Hospice-Poppen House.
