Mr. Michael J. Miller, Jr., age 54, passed away Wednesday morning, August 13, 2008 at Mercy Hospital, following a short illness. Mick was born in Muskegon on September 27, 1953 to Michael and Joyce (Rose) Miller. He was a 1971 graduate of Mona Shores H.S. and received his Bachelors Degree from Grand Valley State University. in 1975. Upon graduation, Michael became the youngest City Manager in the State of Michigan, working for the City of Hopkins. Continuing his career in various governmental positions, Mike became City Manager for the City of Wyoming, MI, before moving to West Haven, CT, where he was Housing Director. Mr. Miller returned to Muskegon in 1998 and was Program Manager for Pioneer Resources. He was also president of the Nelson Neighborhood Association. Michael was a strong advocate for people with disabilities, was an avid gardener, loved the outdoors and his dogs. SURVIVORS: two daughters, Sarah Kay Miller of Winston, CT and Jennifer Rose Miller of Sahuarita, AZ; parents, Michael and Joyce Miller, Sr. of Norton Shores; three brothers, Rev. Timothy (Diane) Miller of Orchard Park, NY, Gregory (Becky) Miller of Oshkosh, NE and Joseph (Colleen) Miller of Norton Shores; two sisters, Peggie (John) Grabner of N. Muskegon and Julia Sidock of Muskegon; 13 nieces and nephews; and his life partner, Deb Tober of Muskegon. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Jill in 1994. The Funeral Service will be held at: The Lee Chapel Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 6291 S. Harvey St. 231-798-1100 11:00 A.M. Monday, August 18, 2008, Rev. Timothy Miller and Fr. Thomas Brown officiating. He will be laid to rest in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation: Sunday, 6-8 P.M. Memorial: Pioneer Resources.
