AUSTIN, MR. MERRITT J. Muskegon Mr. Merritt J. Austin, age 77, died Tuesday, January 13, 2004. He was born in Coopersville, Michigan on December 25, 1926 to Merritt S. & Ethel J. Akins Austin & married the former Joan M. Westin on August 28, 1948 in Muskegon. Mr. Austin had been employed as an Accountant for S.D. Warren, Muskegon Screw Works, Whittaker Electric & R Trucking. He was an active member of Samuel Lutheran Church, Chairman of the Christian Business Men of Muskegon & tutored kids in reading at Jolman Elementary & other schools where he was known as ''Grandpa A''. Mr. Austin was an avid football fan of Oakridge & Orchard View Schools. SURVIVORS Wife, Joan; 1 son, Merritt Ned Julie Austin of Muskegon; 2 daughters, Kathy Gary VanMunster of Muskegon & Peggy Michael Thompson of Muskegon; 9 beloved grandchildren & 7 great grandchildren; mother, Ethel Austin of Muskegon; 2 sisters, Norma Andrew Sorensen of Ravenna & Lois Rottman of Muskegon; 1 brother, Kenneth Vonita Austin of AZ. He was preceded in death by a son, Spencer in 1950, 1 daughter, Signe in 1954 & by his father, Merritt S. Austin in 1978. SERVICE Friday, January 16, 2004, 2:00 PM at Samuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Chris Anderson officiating. Interment at Mona View Cemetery. VISITATION Thursday, 2-4 & 7-9 PM at Clock Funeral Home & one hour prior to the service at the church.
