Mr. Merlin Rodger Gowell, age 82, died Friday, July 22, 2011. He was born in Muskegon, MI on October 24, 1928 to Ebbie & Carrie (Holmes) Gowell. Mr. Gowell served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII. He had been employed as an Assembler at Shaw Walker for 40 years until retiring on January 1, 1990. He was a member of Seventh Day Adventist Church and life member of V.F.W. Post #3195 and transferred to V.F.W Post #446 . Merlin enjoyed reading, fishing, hunting, square dancing, fellowship & conversation. SURVIVORS 1 son, Ken Gowell of Fruitport; 1 daughter, Cindy (Rex) Burkall of Nunica; 5 grandchildren, Mandie, Hunter, Casey, Cameron & Stephen; 1 sister, Wilda Beckley of Twin Lake; 2 brothers, Clinton (Doris) Gowell of TN & Harold (Elsie) Gowell of Muskegon; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister Edna Stewart & a brother, Vernon Gowell. SERVICE Wednesday, July 27, 2011, 11:00 AM at the Muskegon Seventh Day Adventist Church, 3040 Evanston Av. with Rev. Ryan Counsell & Chaplain Jan Johnson officiating, with Military Rites held under the Auspices of V.F.W. Post #446. Interment at Mona View Cemetery. MEMORIAL: Seventh Day Adventist Church.
