Melvina Swieringa

Mrs. Melvina Agnes Swieringa, age 77, passed away Tuesday, October 10, 2017. She was born in Muskegon, Michigan on March 1, 1940 to Walter & Mildred (LaFlame) Johnson and married Robert Swieringa on December 22, 1958. Mrs. Swieringa had worked at various furniture companies in Grand Rapids and was later employed as a Cook for Head Start for around 26 years. Melvina was an active member of Fruitport Christian Reformed Church where she taught bible school and sang in the choir. Mrs. Swieringa enjoyed handyman projects, gardening & cooking and will be deeply missed. SURVIVORS Children, Ruth (Dan) Bolles of Florida, Karma Graves, Ben (Erin) Swieringa of Spring Lake, Kurt Swieringa of Ionia; grandchildren, Christopher, Joshua, Kylie, Mylah; siblings, Lyle (Carma Jean) Johnson, Leta (David) Hoglund, Dora Bivins, Connie (Frank) Whitman, Rose (Ken) Helmer. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1973; grandchild, Danielle; siblings, Barbara, Mary, Margaret. SERVICE Monday, October 16, 2017 at 11 am with visitation one hour prior at Fruitport Christian Reformed Church, 3520 Pontaluna Rd. Fruitport, MI 49415. Luncheon to follow the service.
