Mr. Melvin "Mel" H. Jensen, age 92, loving husband, dad, grandpa, great grandpa, passed away Saturday, September 24, 2011 at home with his family after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was born on September 16, 1919 to Hans & Hansena Jensen in Edmore, MI. He moved to Muskegon at the age of five, speaking only Danish. Mel graduated from Muskegon High School in 1938. He served his country in WWII in the US Marine Corps from 1943-1945. Mel graduated from Muskegon School of Business in 1948. He married the former Eleva Gundy on August 19, 1961. In 1985 he retired from Naph-Sol Refining Company after 34 years. Over a period of 22 years he was a trustee, served on the planning commission and zoning board of appeals for Fruitland Township. Mel loved his family greatly and was always present at his grandchildren's sporting events, especially hockey games all over the state. He also loved playing cards with family and friends. SURVIVORS Mel is survived by his wife, Eleva; daughters, Sheri (Rex) Corgan of N. Muskegon, Shelley Jensen of Spring Lake; sons, Larry (Mary Gordon) Jensen, Terry (Carol) Jensen, all of Alabama; grandchildren, Ryan Corgan, Josh Corgan, Jenna Corgan, Pam Jensen, Jeff Jensen, Brad (Rachelle) Jensen, Greg Jensen; great grandchild, Hunter Jensen; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Tanner and Rhudell Gundy; brother-in-law, Bob (Wanda) Gundy; several nieces and nephews. Grandpa will be greatly missed by his grand dog, Emi. MEMORIAL SERVICE Saturday, October 1, 2011, 11:00 AM and visitation 1 hour prior to the service at Fruitland Evangelical Covenant Church with Rev. Brian Kyle officiating. MEMORIAL: In lieu of flowers, please give to the family to defray funeral expenses.
