Mavis Carol Chidester

Mrs. Mavis Carol Chidester, age 81, of Muskegon, died Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at DeBoer Nursing Home. She was born December 9, 1926 in Muskegon to Paul and Wilhelmina "Minnie" (Fethke) Schwarzenberg and was a lifetime resident. Mavis graduated from Muskegon High School in 1945, and attended Muskegon School of Business. On November 11, 1956, she married Earl W. Chidester and worked as a Cost Accountant at Teledyne Continental Motors for 14 years, and for M & E Sod Company which she co-owned with her husband, Earl, until his death in 1980. Mavis was a member of Central Lutheran Church, the Kad Club, and enjoyed sewing, traveling, bird watching and crossword puzzles. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl W. Chidester; her sister, Audrey E. Schwarzenberg and her aunt, Dorothy S. Brandt. Surviving are one daughter, Robbyn (Ed Field) of Muskegon; two grandchildren: Stephanie and Jared; one great grandson, Phillip; one brother, Paul (Donna) Schwarzenberg of Muskegon; one sister, Julia (Harrison) Tiemann of Jenison; several nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral Services will be Saturday, August 30th, at 1:00 p.m. at Ever Rest Funeral Home & Chapel, 1783 E. Keating Ave., with the Reverend Keith E. Bergquist officiating. A graveside service will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service (Noon to 1:00 p.m.)
