Mrs. Mary Swarvar, age 94, passed away on Friday, December 12, 2008 after a short battle with cancer. Mary was born in Newberry, MI on October 10, 1914 to Charles & Amelia Sosnovsky. She spent some time in Washington DC where she was a nanny for the Steinberg family and once even saw Franklin D. Roosevelt pass by. She then moved back to Michigan where she married Carl Swarvar on June 21, 1940. Mary enjoyed gardening and feeding the squirrels, birds, and groundhogs. She was a kind and giving person who never hesitated to help those in need. She was always dropping change in the Salvation Army kettle as well as other donation jars and loved to give candy to the neighborhood kids. She was a very strong-willed and independent person. She was survived by her daughter Linda (Bernie Winicki) Lang, granddaughter Melissa Lang, both of Muskegon; sister, Eva Strevel of Elsie IA; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband, Carl; daughter Kathleen Nelson; and brother Ed. A memorial fund for monetary donations has bee set up at Huntington Bank to help the family pay for arrangements.
