Mary Elizabeth Scott, age 81, died at home on March 25, 2007, surrounded by her family. She was born in Grand Rapids, MI, on May 11, 1925, the first child of Mildred Florence (Gobin) and Frank George (nee Cay) of Muskegon. Mary Liz graduated form Muskegon High School in 1943 where she was very active in Orchestra and Musical Theatre, winning the Arion Award for Music. She went on to Michigan State University where she studied Medical Technology, and in 1946 she married Emmett Ray Moore of Columbiaville at the old First Congregational Church. They resided in Onaway, Michigan where he was the County Coroner of Presque Isle County and she owned Mary's Flower & Gift Shoppe and was active in Eastern Star. Following Mr. Moore's untimely death in 1953, Mary Liz and her 3 daughters, moved home to Muskegon. She worked for dentist Joel Vugteveen, Sr. and subsequently the Muskegon Health Department. She was active in McLaughlin School PTA, Girl Scouts and the First Congregational Church Motet Choir. In 1960, Mary Liz met and married Francis D. Scott (Frank), a Michigan Probation and Parole Officer. Together they were active in Muskegon Civic Opera and First Congregational Church's Congregators. They had two children, and again she was active in McLaughlin PTA and Brownie Scouts, all while working in the lab for Farr View Dairy. Since her retirement in 1979, Mary Liz and Frank were very active in West Shore Jazz Society and Town Club. She was particularly proud of her five children, six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and the fact that she and her husband were able to support their girls through 20 years of college education. SURVIVORS Mary Liz is survived by her husband, Francis D. Scott; daughters, Linda G. Moore of White Cloud, Laura L. Anderson and Lois A. (Thomas) Drake, both of Muskegon, Lisa J. (Jeffry) Sowa of Grant, and Lynellen K. (Rick) Nielsen of Port Jefferson Station, Long Island, NY. She is also survived by grandchildren Kristafer Karl (Julie) Anderson, Joshua Nielsen, Jeremy Nielsen, Jeffry Sowa II, Jeney (T.J.) Goodman, Brandon Drake; great-grandchildren, Kelly Sue Anderson, Kyle Kristafer Anderson, Leah Drake, Alexa Joy Goodman and a number of nieces and nephews. Mary Liz was preceded in death by an older brother, Frank Cay, who died in infancy; her first husband, Emmett Ray Moore; her grandmother, Mary Jane Graff of Hart; her parents; her only sister, Mildred Florence Romanack of Clio; and a great aunt, Hazel Wager of Hart. SERVICE In keeping with her wishes the body has been cremated, and a Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, March 29, 2007 at 2 PM at First Congregational Church with Rev. Jim Johnson officiating, followed by a reception in Fellowship Hall. MEMORIAL: In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Harbor Hospice, Muskegon Child Abuse Council, National Kidney Foudation or the Save the Elephants Fund.
