Darlene "Tyke" Poole (Pattan) went home to be with the Lord on Monday, November 25, 2024 at the age of 80. She was born in Byron Michigan on September 2, 1944 to William "Mort" and Mary (VanWagoner) Pattan. Darlene met Donald Poole Sr. at Grand Rapids Baptist College in Grand Rapids, Michigan and they married after Darlene completed her cosmetology program (a promise made to Darlene's father who insisted that she finish her degree), on June 10, 1965.

Darlene worked as a cosmetologist for 35 years, and owned and operated her own beauty shop (Dockside Hair Designs) for 15 of those years. She also took to the role of a pastor's wife as a natural. She was a gifted hostess and a wise Biblical woman who counseled many people both in and out of the church. She loved being a mother and this was only surpassed by her love of being a grandmother "Grammy". She made sure that each grandchild had a "Grammy day" from the time they were born until they entered school. She even raised her youngest grandson in his infancy, and he resides in her home still. She was more than a grandmother to all of them.

She loved to sunbathe and go boating in the summers, skiing in the winters and long drives looking for deer year round! She never missed a sporting event of her children's or grandchildren's and she was happy to take road trips to support them in various sports all over the United States.

In her final months, she was visited by several people who she had loved throughout her life and they showed their love for her in return. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

SURVIVORS

Husband Don Poole Sr., Son Don Poole Jr., Daughter Dee (and husband Keith) VanderMale, her three grandchildren; Deacon, Molly and Lance Poole and her siblings; Bill, Jack, Harold, and Pat (Pattan). She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Joanna, her son "baby boy Poole," her sister Lavinia (Vin), and brother Chuck Pattan.

SERVICE

A celebration of her life will be held at the church where Don Poole pastored for 20 years; Grand Haven Community Baptist Church (1140 Park Avenue, Grand Haven, MI 49417) on December 8, 2024 at 2:00 PM (reception to follow immediately).
