Mary Lou Williams

Mary Lou Williams, 91, of North Muskegon, Michigan, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2026, at Heartwood Lodge, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on May 29, 1935, in Gomer, Ohio, to Glen and Margaret (Powell) Vandemark, Mary grew up in a close-knit rural community and graduated from Gomer High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Thomas Williams, on July 3, 1955, beginning a lifelong partnership marked by devotion and family. A private and devoted matriarch, she was most comfortable at home, creating a warm and welcoming space for all. She also lent her steady hand to the office side of the family business during the 1980s and 1990s.

In West Michigan, Mary was a member of First Congregational Church and P.E.O. sisterhood. An avid tennis player, she was active in local tennis circles and enjoyed the social gatherings at their country club. A woman of quiet strength and independence, she was still riding her two-wheeled bicycle just weeks before her recent fall. Mary shared a special, lifelong bond with her late twin brother, Gary, and remained exceptionally close to his wife, her sister-in-law, Sherran Vandemark. In recent years, her constant companion was her beloved Himalayan cat, “PK” (Pretty Kitty), who brought her daily joy.

Mary's legacy of quiet strength and devotion to family will be carried on by her loving children: daughter, Lynne Williams Horn, and sons, Larry (Susan) Williams, David (Mimi) Williams and Randy Williams; sister-in-law Sherran Vandemark. She is also survived by grandchildren, Josh Horn, Katie, Edward Horn, Bailey Horn, Marquil (Jeremy Stouser) Horn, Shaina Horn, Khalib (Emmally) Horn, Amy (Jordan) Smith, Casey (Justin) Black, Craig Williams, Dana Williams, Carey (Jared Stenberg) Williams; 28 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Thomas Williams; a grandson, Bryan; her sister, Earlene Kearns; and her brothers, Don (“Bud”) Vandemark, Gary Vandemark, and Dennis Vandemark.

In keeping with her wishes, a private family memorial will be held at First Congregational Church where ashes will be placed with her late husband's. The family is grateful for the compassionate care provided by the staff at Heartwood Lodge and hospice.
