Johnivan, Mrs. Mary Lou Muskegon Mrs. Mary Lou (Reed) Johnivan, age 85, passed on to be with her Lord on April 2, 2020 at Harbor Hospice in Muskegon, Michigan. She was born in Muskegon, MI on January 5, 1935 to John & Mary (Mayes) Reed. She attended Holton Schools and, at age 15, met her future husband Harold Johnivan, at a school dance. After 3 years of dating, Mary Lou and Harold were married on December 31, 1952 at St. Michaels Rectory in Brunswick, before family. Mary Lou moved to Rhode Island to be with her new husband, who was then in the United States Navy, and lived there until his discharge in 1956. The couple and their first son, Harold Jr., then moved back to Michigan and into the home on Giles Rd, where they added 2 more sons, John Joseph and Dale Allen, to the family and where she resided for the rest of her life. Mary Lou was a long-time member of Anchor of Hope Church (formerly Giles Rd. Baptist)and found great pleasure in teaching Sunday School, Junior Church and Awana, which she did for many years. She recalled those experiences as being some of the happiest of her life. In addition to taking care of her family Mary Lou tried factory work, hosted in a fast-food restaurant, did some house-cleaning and babysitting, and operated her own beauty shop for nearly 30 years. After the beauty shop closed, she worked for Meijer, Inc., quitting there after 9+ years, to care for her brother. SURVIVORS Sons, Harold (Kathryn) Johnivan, John (Debbie) Johnivan & Dale Johnivan; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Harold Sr., sisters, Millie and Etta Mae; brothers, Henry & Joseph. She will be greatly missed.
