Mary Hessel

Mary E. (Lasser) Hessel, age 95, passed away at her home in Muskegon on Saturday, June 13, 2009. She was born on October 29, 1913 in Elgin, IL to William Boise & Anna Elizabeth (Ryan) Holton. In 1920 her family, including 2 younger sisters, Gertrude & Dorothy, moved to Sacramento, CA. Her mother unexpectedly died in 1922 and Mary and her sisters were sent to Muskegon to be raised by their grand aunt. Mary graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1931. She worked for Amazon Mills and later for Sealed Power Corporation. On October 14, 1939 she married Donald Nelson Lasser. Mr. Lasser passed away in 1966. In 1987 she married Clair L. Hessel. They lived in Florida until 2003 when they returned to Muskegon. Mr. Hessel passed away in 2007. Mary enjoyed reading and writing letters as well as her journal. Mary was an avid card player with friends and family. She was a member of the a capella group the Sweet Adelines in the 60's & 70's. She loved traveling and took an extended trip through Europe when she was in her 70's. During the past 7 years, she enjoyed catching up on her family's history. SURVIVORS Mary is survived her 4 children, David (Zita) Lasser of WA, Diane (Ed) Peabody of Muskegon, Gerald (Rae Deane) Lasser of WA, Julie (Barry) Webber of Muskegon; grandchildren, Donald Lasser, Amelia Lasser, Edward Peabody Jr., Amy Haack, Teague Lasser, Jamie Barker; 2 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Josephine Lasser; several nieces & nephews. SERVICE Wednesday, June 17, 2009, 1:00 PM at Clock Chapel in Muskegon with Deacon Jim Schiltz officiating and visitation 1 hour prior to the service. Interment at St. Mary's Cemetery.
