Mary Gasaway

Mrs. Mary C. Gasaway, age 92, died Saturday, October 30, 2010. She was born in Dwight, IL on June 7, 1918 to William & Carrie (Christensen) Weldon and married Clifton Gasaway on September 14, 1938. Mrs. Gasaway provided devoted support to her husband and children in their endeavors, was active in her church, and kept up an amazing correspondence with family and friends nearly to the end. After graduating from college, she began her teaching career in a one-room school, picking up some of the students along the way in a used Model T Ford. She later taught in Harbor Springs and St. Clair Shores, MI. She gave thirty years of service to Girl Scouts as a troop leader, trainer and board member of the St. Clair Shores GS and Michigan Pines and Dunes GS Councils. SURVIVORS Daughters, Carolyn (Byron) Weng of Muskegon, Mary Ann (Ronald) Peirsol of Weimar TX; son, John (Elaine) Gasaway of Novi, MI; grandchildren, Keith (Philein) Weng, Kevin Weng, Matthew Scanlin, Samuel Gasaway, Catherine Gasaway; great grandchild, Thadeus Weng. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifton in 2007; son, William Gasaway; parents; 2 brothers, William and John & 1 sister, Margaret. MEMORIAL SERVICE Saturday, November 13, 2010, 11:00 AM at Community United Methodist Church in N. Muskegon with Rev. Robert Lynch officiating. Interment at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Dwight IL at a later date.
