Mary Lou Eyke, age 93, passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2025. She was born in Muskegon, MI on June 3, 1932, to Lou & Dorothy (Cook) Landman. She graduated from North Muskegon High School, then went on to Albion College where she earned her teaching degree.


Mary Lou was employed as an art teacher and a substitute teacher in the Muskegon area during her early years. She married William C. Eyke Jr. on July 12, 1969. Mary Lou was a member of the First Congregational Church and the Service League, Group 21. They were long-time members of the White Lake Yacht Club.


Avid boaters, she and Bill spent summers on their boats cruising Lake Michigan and the North Channel in Canada. They loved traveling, including trips all over the United States, Europe, the Orient, South America, and New Zealand to name a few of their adventures. There were many ski trips to Colorado with friends and family. Their winters were spent in Florida, Jamacia and Mexico.


Mary Lou enjoyed flowers, playing tennis, walking, entertaining, their beloved Golden Retrievers, reading, painting, close friends, classical music, the arts and the color purple. She was a gentle, kind person who will be missed by all who knew her.


SURVIVORS


Husband William Eyke; daughters, Melissa (Mark LaFleur) Verplank, Marte' (Ronald) Matthews; grandchildren, Paige Rae (Dr. Zachary) Rehfus. Trent (Laura White) Matthews, Lance Matthews; great-grandchild, Valerie Rehfus; caregiver Roberta Hinkley. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Lynn Verplank and a brother Robert J. Landman.


CELEBRATION OF LIFE


On Tuesday, July 15, 2025 a Celebration of Life will be held in honor of Mary Lou Eyke at Lake House Waterfront Grille and Event Center in Muskegon from 5-7 PM.
