Mary Katherine (Pierce) Barnes age 71 passed away Thursday, August 2, 2012, at Harbor Hospice Poppen House in Muskegon, Michigan. Born December 22, 1940, in Mount Clemens, Michigan, and relocated to the Muskegon area with her parents who owned Pierce's Blueberries on Green Creek Road, North Muskegon, for many years. Mary is survived by her loving daughters, Luetta Drakos, Virginia Barnes of Nebraska and Cynthia (Dan) Wynne of Ohio. She was a loving and committed Grandmother to Rita Ramirez (deceased), Jayden Pierce, Samantha Drakos, Tonya Barnes, Janette Loyselle, Renay Loyselle, Joleen Loyselle, Ryan Wynne and Lisa Wynne. She is also survived by five Great Grandchildren, Amber, Katherine, Cloe, Kerren and Jeremiah. Mary grew up with her parents (married 60 years), three brothers and three sisters. She is preceded in death by her parents Stanley and Luetta Pierce, brothers, Stanley and Roy, and sister, Dorothy. She is survived by her remaining brothers and sisters, Shirley Pierce of Whitehall, Leonard (Bonnie) Pierce of North Muskegon, Andrew (Pam) Pierce of Beach Park, Illinois and Joan (Phillip) Knash of Muskegon. She was a devoted aunt and friend to many, especially her best friend for several years, Joan McBride. Mary owned and operated her own cleaning company until her retirement 5 years ago. She moved to Twin Lake, Michigan, in 1998 where she enjoyed maintaining her flower garden and lawn. She loved the outdoors and was known as a strong, feisty, independent woman. Mary wanted to help and benefit others after her death and donated her body to science. SERVICES A funeral will not be held, however, a celebration of her life will take place Saturday, August 4, from 1 to 8:00 p.m. at Leonard and Bonnie Pierce's resident located at 2810 Lorenson Road in North Muskegon, MI. All are welcome! A warm and sincere thank you to Heartland Health Care Center and Harbor Hospice Poppen House for the gentle, compassionate care and support provided to Mary and her daughters when she became ill. The family suggests contributions be made in Mary's memory to either organization.
