Marjorie "Marge" C. Soderstrom passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2011 at St. Mark's Lutheran Home. She was in the presence of loved ones. Marge was born to Dingeman and Julia Catherine (Leffel) Waalwyk on November 9, 1923, in Chicago, Illinois. After graduating from Calumet High School, Marge worked as a bookkeeper until meeting Philip Soderstrom at Grace Baptist Church. The couple married on May 25, 1946 and moved to Park Forest, Illinois, where their children, James and Linda, were born. The family moved to Lombard, Illinois in 1954. In 1977, Marge and Phil moved to Muskegon, Michigan. Marge was an avid volunteer in her community. She was a member and deaconess at Lakeside Baptist Church, volunteered with the Hume Home Committee, and donated her time and energy at the Muskegon Rescue Mission thrift store. After her husband passed away in 1986, Marge stayed busy working as a receptionist. She enjoyed cooking, baking, making crafts, and playing piano and organ. In 2005, Marge moved to Our House in Austin, Minnesota to be near her son. In 2007, she moved to St. Mark's Lutheran Home. She loved spending time with her family and could usually be found playing board games, working on puzzles, or reading. Marge will be missed for her humor, strength, graciousness, fighting spirit, generosity, and love of family. SURVIVORS Marge is survived by her two children: Linda (Fred) Vestal and Jim (Pam) Soderstrom; four grandchildren: Ken Vestal, Rachel (Jonathan) Wu, Amy (William) McGuire, and Lauren Soderstrom; and two great-grandchildren: Samantha Wu and Madeline Wu. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dingeman and J. Catherine Waalwyk; husband, Philip Soderstrom; and brother, Richard Waalwyk. MEMORIAL SERVICE Saturday, October 8, 2011, 11:00 AM at the Clock Chapel - Muskegon with Rev. Roy Williamson officiating. MEMORIAL: Memorials can be sent to Lakeside Baptist Church.
