HENDRICKS, MRS. MARJORIE Grand Haven, MI Mrs. Marjorie M. Hendricks, age 81, died Monday, March 24, 2003. She was born March 1, 1922 to Henry C. & Mabel Naomi Chard Meyers in Muskegon Heights, MI. She was a graduate of Grand Haven High School class of 1939 & went on to receive her Nursing Degree from Hurley School of Nursing in 1943. She married Matthew Leighton Hendricks in May of 1952 & he preceded her in death in 1963. She received her BS degree in Geography from Aquinas College in 1979. Mrs. Hendricks worked as an operating room nurse at North Ottawa Community Hospital & was also employed by the Visiting Nurse Association. Later she worked as a reporter for the Muskegon Chronicle. Marjorie volunteered with the American Cancer Society & was a founding member of the local Environmental Action Council. She also spent time working with Girl Scouts in Potawatomie Trails Neighborhood. A longtime member of the Parks & Recreation Board, she was instrumental in the development of the East End Park. Mrs. Hendricks was active in local politics, leading three separate environmental referendums, one of which saved the north shore dunes from development. In recognition of her many efforts on behalf of the Kitchel-Lindquist Dunes Preserve, the Marjorie Hendricks Trail was dedicated in October of 2000. She was also the first recipient of the Amy Neuman Environmental Award in 1977. SURVIVORS: Daughter, Martha Boomgaard of Grand Haven, MI; granddaughter, Leighanne Erik Pouch; great- grandson, Julian Pouch; sister, Jacqueline Roberts of Grand Haven, MI; nephews, Greg Sue Hendricks & Mark Norene Hendricks; niece, MaryBob Brown & good friend, Larry Katrina VanHouten of Grand Haven, MI. Mrs. Hendricks was preceded in death by her parents. SERVICE GATHERING: A gathering of family & friends will be held at 7:00 PM, Thursday, March 27, 2003 at Clock Funeral Home. Interment at Spring Lake Cemetery. Memorial: Kitchel Dunes Preserve. Clock-Grand Haven
