Formerly of Muskegon, Marjorie Kathleen Harwood was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, the daughter of William Raymond and Elva Raye (Bedwell) Booker. Marjorie was educated in Muskegon Heights in the public school system, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana University and a Master of Arts degree from Western Michigan University. She was a Teacher and Counselor for Muskegon Heights Public Schools from 1940 - 1974. Marjorie, a Life member of the National Education Association and a past member of the Michigan Education Association, served as the latter's Secretary and the Chairman of District IV. She served as the President of Muskegon Heights Education Association, was a past member of the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel, and a Life member of the Indiana University Alumni Association. Marjorie was a member and President of the Muskegon Heights Junior Woman's Club and Muskegon Junior Woman's Club. She served as Chairman of Juniors of the Michigan State Federation of Women's Club and was also a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority. In 1942, Marjorie joined the Muskegon Chapter of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution and was its regent from 1952 - 1955. She transferred to the Florida Keys Chapter in 1983, and served as its vice regent, regent, registrar and DAR Magazine chairman. From 1989 - 1990, Marjorie served as chairman of the Library Committee for the Florida State Society. Marjorie was a life member of the DAR. She was a member of the Daughters of Founders and Patriots of America; Illinois Chapter, the National Society of Colonial Dames; XVII Century, Captain Edmund Scarborough Chapter, Miami, Florida, the Marathon American Legion Auxiliary, and the Keyettes. Marjorie was a life member of the Historical Society of Sullivan County, Indiana, Indiana Pioneers; Indiana Historical Society and Northwest Territory Genealogical Society, Vincennes, Indiana; a member and past President of the Marathon Garden Club; Member and past President of Michigan Pi, Florida Beta, and Florida Delta Mu of the Alpha Delta Kappa organization. She was a member of the Fisherman's Hospital Auxiliary; Women of Moose and Academy of Friendship. Marjorie was married to C.E. Foster, and after his death she married W. Vernon Harwood and moved to Marathon, Florida. SURVIVORS She is survived by her sister Jeanne Fisher and numerous nieces and nephews. SERVICE A service will not be held.
