Marie Peterson

Mrs. Marie Peterson passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at the Leila and Cyrus Poppen Hospice Residence in Muskegon with her family by her side. She was born in Muskegon, MI on November 25, 1916 to Edward and Blanche Hanson, was baptized at St. Mary's Catholic Church, and was a lifetime member of the church. After graduating from Muskegon High School she worked for Mercy Hospital in the admitting department. After leaving Mercy Hospital she was then in employed at Lakey Foundry working in the lab in support of the war effort. She retired from working with the Gudelsky brothers who were in the scrap metal business. The former Marie Hanson married Charles Peterson on December 6, 1952. He preceded her in death in 1984. Marie was an extremely talented seamstress and outstanding artist and was called on frequently by her family and others to utilize her talents and she was always happy to oblige. In addition to her love of art, Marie enjoyed traveling. Preceding her in death besides her mother and father were her brother, Robert Hanson and a sister, Clare Hanson (Kennebeck). She has 1 surviving sister, Donna Hanson (Noel) of Norton Shores, MI. Although Marie never had any children of her own she had many great, great, great-nieces and nephews who thought of her as a second mother and she loved them all dearly as if they were her own. She had a reputation of being one of the most kind and generous people you could ever meet, never having an unkind word to say about anyone. She will be missed by many. FUNERAL MASS: Saturday, 10 A.M., at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Rev Ernest Bernott officiating. Burial St. Mary's Cemetery in Muskegon. VISITATION: Friday at the Young Funeral Home from 2-4 and 6-8. ROSARY: Friday evening at 7:30 P.M. at the funeral home. MEMORIAL: contributions can be made to American Cancer Society of MI Harbor Hospice.
