Marie Luttrull, 82, died unexpectedly at the end of the day on August 31, 2007 in her home on White Lake. She had spent the day doing some of the things that she loved best, walking in the woods, working in her garden and enjoying the beautiful sunny day. She died of a cerebral hemorrhage while getting ready to go out to dinner with her son John. Marie, the oldest of three girls, was born on February 28, 1925 to Henry and Emma Kropf in Muskegon Heights, MI. She had wonderful memories of growing up in the Sacred Heart Parish family and her time in the Young Ladies Society. She loved music and took piano lesson at St Mary's Church and played the clarinet in the Muskegon Heights Marching Band. She graduated from MHHS in 1943. She worked in the office at her father's shop (Brickner-Kropf) until the birth of her first child in 1950. Marie married Elwood E. Luttrull on November 25, 1948 and together they raised five children in Sacred Heart Parish. They valued a faith-based education and were proud of the Catholic education that their children received at Sacred Heart School and Muskegon Catholic Central. Marie thrived on 'keeping busy' and was very involved in the PTA (member and president), the Sacred Heart Altar Society (member and president), Cub Scouts and many other volunteer activities. She cherished her annual weekend retreat at St Lazare's Retreat House in Spring Lake and put in many volunteer hours there as well. Marie and Elwood moved to Arizona in the summer of 1974. There she 'kept busy' with her music ministry at St Anthony's Church in Casa Grande and St Helen's Church in Eloy, Rosary Makers, Arizona City Garden Club, delivering food to the Reservations, volunteering at the library, golfing and hiking. She enjoyed climbing Picacho Peak and rafting thought the Grand Canyon. As their health declined much of her time was spent in caring for her beloved husband Elwood and her mother Emma. Her last eight years have been spent back in the White Lake area where she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She especially enjoyed time spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren on the beach at her home on White Lake and at the many family celebrations. She loved being on the lake, fishing with her boys, paddling in the paddleboat and canoe or just floating on her raft. Much of her time has been filled with many prayer groups, (Cenacle Prayer Group at St Michael's Church, Our Lady's Prayer Group at St. James Church, her Novena to Our Lady of Perpetual Help at St. Mary's Church), time spent in the Eucharistic Adoration Chapel, and being a lay distributor of Communion to the patients at Mercy Hospital. She volunteered for the Adopt-a Reader program at St. James School. She was a crusader for the unborn and was very involved in the Right-to-Life movement. She has supported missionary work, Priests for Life, Ave Maria University, The Nature Conservancy and many other worthwhile charities and organizations. Marie was a passionate lady. She was passionate about her Catholic faith, her family and her crusade for the unborn. She will be greatly missed. Preceded in death by her husband, Elwood, her stillborn son Charles and her sister Colletta, Marie is survived by her five children, 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
