She was born in Grand Haven, MI on January 20, 1915 to Louis & Grace Hamilton Kamhout & married Walter Podein in Grand Haven, MI. He preceded her in death May of 2001. Mrs. Podein had been employed as a clerk at Meijer's & also worked at the Glove Factory & Murphys Lounge. Mrs. Podein was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ. She enjoyed gardening, shopping, baking wedding & birthday cakes, needlework & horseback riding. Survivors: Son, Vaughn Brefka of Los Angeles, CA; daughter, Gwyneth Stone of Madison, WI; 4 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; niece, Susan Sommerville of Traverse City, MI; sister-in-law, Grace Wilbert of Muskegon, MI; brother-in-law, Les Podein of Grand Haven, MI; several nieces & nephews. Mrs. Podein was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter Podein in May of 2001; sister, Helen; brother Vaughn. Service: Thursday, October 24, 2002, 11:00 AM at St. Paul's United Church of Christ with Rev. Lydia Meyer officiating. Interment at Lakeshore Cemetery.
