Maria Maniates

Mrs. Maria A. Maniates, age 88, passed away Thursday, December 13, 2012 after a long illness. Maria was born in Waupaca, WI on February 21, 1924 to Katherine Melehes and Angelos Drivas, both immigrants from Greece. She became the first in the family to graduate from college at the University of Wisconsin-Stout in 1946 as a Registered Dietician. She married Peter Maniates in 1957 and retired from the City of Chicago Board of Health in 1990. She was a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Chicago. She is the former president of the Greek Women University Club along with other civic activities. SURVIVORS Sons, George (Margaret) Maniates of Norton Shores, Evan (Yvonne) Maniates of Marengo IL, Andrew (Efstathia) Maniates of Elmwood Park IL; she was a loving YiaYia to Brigid (Matt), Katherine, Peter, Rose, John, Evan Jr., Ava; brother, George Drivas of Waupaca WI; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter and brother, Peter. SERVICE Tuesday, December 18, 2012, 7:00 PM at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church with Fr. Steve VanBronkhorst officiating. Interment at Elmwood Park Cemetery. VISITATION Tuesday, 5:00-7:00 PM at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church. MEMORIAL: Little Red House Adult Day Care or Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church.
