Marcella Gilman

Mrs. Marcella Nell Gilman, age 81, died Tuesday, June 12, 2007. She was born in Muskegon, MI on April 29, 1926 to John & Grace (Rillema) Westerman and married John V. Gilman on July 19, 1952. Marcella earned her BA from Hope College in 1948 and also attended U of M completing her graduate studies. Mrs. Gilman started her teaching career with Muskegon Public Schools and then taught at North Muskegon Public Schools for 20 years until retiring in 1986. She touched so many lives, instilling in them love of reading & learning. Her family formed the core of her life. She was their beacon and their anchor. Her strong faith and her spirit will always live on in the legacy that she left. She was a former member of Central Reformed Church and later becoming a member of Central United Methodist Church. She was involved with PEO, Church Circles and was also a volunteer at Hackley Hospital Cancer Treatment Center. SURVIVORS Husband of 54 years, John; son, Robert (Eliza) Gilman of San Diego,CA; daughter, Sally (Todd) Richardson of Brentwood, TN; 3 grandchildren, Megan Gilman, Brian & Tyler Richardson; many nieces, nephews & cousins. She was preceded in death by her 3 sisters, Marian Westerman, Genevieve Maring & Geraldine Bos. SERVICE Friday, June 15, 2007, 11 AM at Central United Methodist Church with Rev. Randall Hansen & Chaplain Jan Johnson officiating. VISITATION Thursday, 6-9 PM at Clock Life Story Funeral Home-Muskegon and Friday, 1 hour prior to the service. MEMORIAL: Hackley Hospital Cancer Treatment Center.
