Major Donald Ryan

Major Donald R. Ryan, USAF (Ret) age 82, died Wednesday, August 18, 2010. He was born in Muskegon on April 7, 1928 to James & Emily (St. Amour) Ryan and married the former Barbara Spears in 1953 whom he met while both were serving in the USAF. Maj. Ryan served his country for 22 years stationed in Germany, Japan, Okinawa, Greenland and Taiwan. He later worked for 19 years as a civilian for the Air Force as an auditor. He was a life member of the Grand Junction, Colorado Elks and served as Exalted Ruler. SURVIVORS Son, Michael (Deborah) Ryan of CO; daughter, Kathleen Ryan of MD; fiance & best friend, Marge Brown; sisters, Eilene Nelson of Norton Shores, Kathlene Brems of NC; nieces & nephews, Michael (Sharon) Nelson of GA, Cindy (John) VanVeelen of Norton Shores; Cheryl (Mark) Sliwoski of TN, Marianne (Jim) Rogers of Spring Lake, William (Elizabeth) Brems of GA, Richard Brems; several great nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Barbara; daughter, Maureen. The family would like to thank the staff at the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans for their care and friendship. SERVICE Sunday, August 22, 2010, 2:00 PM at McGraft Memorial Congregational Church with Rev. Dr. Gerald Wahr officiating.
