Louise Purnell

Louise Purnell, age 88, went Home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, April 22, 2008. She was the widow of Jordan "Buddy" Purnell. Louise was born September 11, 1919. Louise was a member of Phillip Chapel AME and was dedicated to her service in the church, serving as President of the Silent Workers Club for many years. Louise was retired from Child Haven in 1985. Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Jordan "Buddy" Purnell, her parents, twin brother Louis, brothers, Andrew, Jim, Essie "Duke", "John" Wesley, and Harold Cheeks, also by her sisters, Dorothy Watts, Evelyn Carpenter and Marge Baker. Louise is survived by her three children, Bernard (Dorothy) Purnell of Altadena, CA, Joyce Steele of Lansing, MI and Jordan (Lori) of Muskegon, MI. She also leaves to her memory 6 grandchildren, Gene, Robin, Jordan, Ambrose, Cynthia, and Gary, as well as 12 great grandchildren. She also leaves her two loving brothers, Walter (Mildred) Cheeks and Don (Betty) Cheeks, her youngest sister, Mildred (Johnnie) Barrett, a host of nieces, nephews, friends and God-Son Reginald Toombs. Funeral Services will be held at Phillip Chapel, Thursday, May 1 at 12pm with Rev. Manuel Haynes officiating. Interment: Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation: Wednesday, April 30, 2-7pm with family hour from 6-7pm at the Toombs Chapel.
