Lois Elaine Waalkes, age 84, passed away Friday, October 13, 2023. She was born in Muskegon, MI on April 11, 1939 to Harold & Bertha (Clock) Loughery and married Martin Waalkes on December 6, 1957 and he preceded her in death in 2021. Lois had worked as a secretary for Dowagiac Public Schools when her children were young, then in retail at a Hardware Store and finally as a medical transcriptionist. She loved being near the water, whether on the beach or sailing. She was a very supportive wife and enjoyed playing golf, cross country skiing and watching the Detroit Tigers with her husband Marty. Together they were known as Coach Grandpa and Grandma to the teams Marty volunteer coached and especially famous for her chocolate chip cookies. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and also liked playing bridge and attending Bible Study with her neighbor friends. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who supported all of them throughout their endeavours. Lois shared her smile and grace with everyone she met. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Son, Robert (Cathi) Waalkes of North Muskegon; daughter, Susan (Bruce) Summers of Bluffton, SC; grandchildren, Rebecca (Kate) Waalkes Cleary, Sarah (Nicholas) Morrall, Jacob Waalkes, Jennifer (Patrick) Krutewicz, Justin (Emily) Waalkes, Aubrey Petty; great-grandchildren, Sofia, Alexander, Josephine, Violet; Sister, Jeanne DeVette. She was preceded in death by her husband Martin in 2021, son James, in 2012; Mother, Bertha (Clock) Loughery De Vette and fathers Harold Loughery and Paul De Vette; sister, Mary Nichols. The family would like to thank her dear Caregivers Kristi Springer and Angie Horton.
