Leonard Eugene Wells April 23, 1928 - December 3, 2020 Leonard E Wells age 92 of Grand Haven, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2020 at Heartwood Lodge Hospice. He was born in Belding, Michigan to the late Henry and Ida (Johnson) Wells. He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers, three sisters and his sister-in-law Alice Mason of North Carolina. He is survived by his loving wife Shirley, daughter Linda (Andrew) Pelz, sons Edward Wells and Michael (Elizabeth) Wells, all of Grand Haven, along with many nieces and nephews. Leonard graduated from Belding High School in 1947. Shortly after, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and during the Korean Conflict. He earned the rank of Gunners Mate 2nd Class and served on the missile ship USS White River, LSMR-536. He lived briefly in Santa Monica , California after his Navy days and then moved back to West Michigan where he met his beloved wife Shirley Mason on a blind date. They were married June 8, 1957 at St Mark's Episcopal Church in Grand Rapids. He worked as a welder for Gibson Refrigerator, a craftsman for Laughead Piano and as a traveling office machine repair technician for Monroe Inc. In his retirement years he became a master chair caner, caning over 1800 chairs in the Grand Haven area. Len was a member of St John's Episcopal Church in Grand Haven, was a big U of M football fan and a skilled sportsman, enjoying a lifetime of camping, hunting and fishing. He loved his family and all their various animals, horses, cats, chickens and especially dogs. Len never met a person he didn't want to talk to. Everywhere he went he would stop and talk. In fact, a trip to the grocery store was never complete until he had said hello to everyone and then came home and told his family about everyone, he had met that day. In accordance with Len's wishes, his ashes will be interred in Grand Haven Township cemetery in a private ceremony. Memorial services will be held at a future date. The family is deeply grateful for the staff at Heartwood Lodge Hospice for their wonderful care of Leonard in his final illness.
