On May 13, 2008, our father, Leonard Hurrell, age 88, returned gently to his Creator. He was embraced by Mary Hurrell and his daughter, Patricia, who preceded him in death. He leaves behind Marie Hurrell, his beloved wife of six years. Their time together was a comfort and a great blessing. As a young man, Leonard served in World War II. He was employed before and after the war at Shaw Walker until his retirement. Leonard was the last of thirteen brothers and sisters. We imagine a wonderful homecoming celebration upon his arrival. His daughters, Katherine Nuyens and Theresa Heller hold him in their hearts as he journeys Home. Leonard spent his last months at Oceana Medical Care Facility where he was surrounded by kindness and care. 'Red' made friends easily with his quick smile and ready chuckle. His daughters are grateful to his step-daughter, Betty Lou Pleva; her husband, Gary; and the whole family for all their support. We also wish to thank Craig and Patty Barr for being the best neighbors ever for Leonard and Marie. Leonard has left behind two wonderful sons-in-law, Thomas Nuyens and Ernest Heller; granddaughter, Laurie Nuyens; and grandsons, Bill Jones, Jim Jones, and Daniel Jones; as well as great-grandchildren. We are joyful in his peace, knowing that he is embraced in love and truly at rest. Since 1957 Leonard 'Red' Hurrell has been a devoted member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 2929 McCracken, where a Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association.
