Mrs. LaVina "Kelly" Evelyn Westgate, age 97, passed away peacefully, Saturday evening, September 1, 2007 at the Poppen Residence. She was born March 14, 1910 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Harvey & Leitha (O'Shane) Wells; and then moved to Muskegon in 1956, where she has since resided. In 1980, LaVina retired from Mercy Hospital as a LPN; after which she became a volunteer for the American Red Cross and an avid painter, creating beautiful works of art. "Kelly" was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church and was formerly a member of the Muskegon Garden Club. SURVIVORS include her 4 children, Carol (Dale) Gauthier of North Muskegon, Rosemary (Dick) Walter of Ravenna, Jim (Sue) Westgate, and Jerry (Roxie) Westgate of Norton Shores; 8 grandchildren, Dr. Carolyn (Scott) Berghuis, Richard Bullard, Robert (Kate Boston) Bullard, Katie Westgate, Laura Westgate, Nancy (Todd) Sytsema, J.J. Westgate, and Elizabeth Westgate; along with several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and by her step-grandchildren, Joe (Kathy) Gauthier, Robyn (Larry) Doctor, Lisa (Wayne Wahala) Gauthier, Richard (Sarah) Walter, Jr., and Jeanna (Brian) Eckhardt. The MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be 4 PM Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Robert Hart presiding. VISITATION with LaVina's family will be 3-4 PM Wednesday at the church, prior to the Mass. Private family burial will follow in St Andrew's Catholic Cemetery, Grand Rapids, MI.
