Laurie Sperry

Ms. Laurie L. Sperry, age 59, passed away Thursday, October 21, 2010. She was born in Grand Rapids, MI on April 12, 1951 to Lewis & Louella (Winkler) Sperry. She was a devoted daughter and inspiration to all who knew her. Ms. Sperry graduated from Western Michigan University and Grand Valley State University with a Master's degree in learning disabilities. Laurie taught at Muskegon High School her entire career in a profession she truly loved until retiring in 1994. Laurie's greatest gift was her friendship. She was loyal, patient and unconditional in her love. She possessed a strong faith and courage that sustained her throughout her life. Laurie was a longtime member of Central United Methodist Church. She volunteered for Harbor Hospice and was an active member & supporter of therapy dogs. Laurie was an avid herb gardener and multimedia artist. She enjoyed world travel and art study in Ireland. She played piano, and enjoyed classical music. She always maintained a wonderful sense of humor. What was most important to Laurie were her family and friends. SURVIVORS Mother, Louella Sperry of Norton Shores; brother, Lanny (Libby) Sperry of Byron Center; niece, Lisa (Andy) Stroup of Spring Lake; great nieces, Chloe & Ellie Stroup; best friend, Marty San Clemente of Muskegon and her golden retriever, Gabriel. She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Arline VandenBerg & sister-in-law, Renee Sperry. SERVICE Thursday, October 28, 2010, 11:00 AM at Central United Methodist Church with Rev. Randall Hansen officiating. VISITATION Wednesday, 6-8 PM at Clock Life Story Funeral Home - Muskegon. MEMORIAL: Harbor Hospice.
