James H. Laughlin, age 75, was called Home to be with his Heavenly Father on Thursday, October 12, 2006 at a local hospital. He was born April 23, 1931 to Howard V. and Gladys (Brandt) Laughlin in Corunna, MI; and he married Louise Kuzniar on May 24, 1952 at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Nunica. Mr. Laughlin served his country in the Korean conflict and moved to Grand Haven in 1963 from Muskegon. He was employed as a machinist for Gardner Denver for 29 years. He also worked for Life Savers in Holland for 13 years, until retiring in 1993. Mr. Laughlin was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening and working in his yard. He was also an enthusiastic sports fan. He was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Grand Haven and served on numerous church boards and committees. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Louise; 2 daughters, Vicki (Douglas) Koster of Wyoming, MI, and Lori (Craig) Johnston of Atlanta, GA; 6 grandchildren: Meghan, Nicholas, and Nathan Koster, and Alex, Michael, and Kyle Johnston; 2 sisters, Janet (Henry) Christiansen of Fruitport and Mary (Fred) McMahon of Muskegon; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. The service for Mr. Laughlin will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 16, 2006, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Grand Haven with Rev. Dieter Haupt officiating. Friends may meet the family Sunday, 6-8 p.m., at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven. Military rites provided under the auspices of the American Legion - Charles Conklin Post 28, Grand Haven, MI. Interment will be in Lake Forest Cemetery. Memorials to St. John's Lutheran Church are appreciated.
