Larry Charles Mcgarey

Muskegon -- Larry Charles McGarey, 83 a long-time resident of Cloverville, died peacefully Thursday the 3rd of November. Born August 5th, 1939 in Muskegon to Ellis & Edith (Sorrow) McGarey. Larry graduated from Muskegon Heights High School in 1957; after which time he attended Muskegon Community College. Larry began his 45-year career in 1956 at Brunswick until his retirement in 2002; He also served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1959 to 1963. Larry married his high school sweetheart Shirley Ann (Robson) McGarey on October 10th 1964. They were happily married for 55 years, welcoming 4 children, 7 Grandchildren and 5 Great Grandchildren. Larry very much enjoyed spending his time with family, going on road trips & traveling, especially if it involved shopping for his next auction or a trip to the casino. Larry was on a bowling league for many years at Northway Lanes; He also enjoyed hunting & fishing with his son, frequenting Fricano's Pizza, finding a good flea market and his time at home with his dogs - Highway & Nene. His witty humor, daily phone calls to checkup on family, thoughtfulness and kind heart will be dearly missed by all. He is survived by his Daughter Laura McGarey (Steven Yordy), Son David (Dottie) McGarey, Daughter Susan McGarey-Williams; Grandchildren Amanda (Eric) Briggs, Susie McGarey, Joseph (Christine) McGarey, Rebecca McGarey, Courtney (Tyler) Hawkins, Karly (Duncan) Parker, Alisha Williams; as well as Great Grandchildren Kaleb McGarey, Everett & Greyson Briggs, Adley Hawkins, Hazel Parker; His sisters Marilyn Cheskie of Twin Lake, and Marlene (Kelly) Bobbitt of Otsego; He is preceded in death by his Wife Shirley McGarey (2019), Son Robert McGarey (2002), sister Audrey Grant (2021) and parents Ellis & Edith McGarey. A Celebration of Life for both Larry & Shirley will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at The V.F.W. No. 7729 6285 E Apple Ave, Muskegon, MI 49442.
