Mr. Kline, age 68, died September 29, 2006. Born August 15, 1938, in Shelby, to Clayton and Elizabeth (Mikkelson) Kline, he had lived in the White Lake area all his life. Clayton graduated from Montague High School and served in the Navy for four years. He retired from Howmet after 38 years of employment. Extensive research into Native American prehistoric earth works, specifically the Chaokia Mounds along the Missouri River, along with preparing an archaeological profile of Beaver Island, occupied much of his time. He was an avid supporter of Montague athletics and took great joy in not only watching the football games but practices, as well. He would visit the coffee shops and local businesses along with his dog George to discuss the previous night's game and world affairs. He was extremely proud of the team over the last several years and always considered himself a Wildcat. Mr. Kline was preceded in death by a son, Timothy.
