McKinnon, Kenneth Clair North Muskegon, Michigan Kenneth Clair McKinnon, age 93, passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2020. He was born in Highland Park, Michigan on November 13, 1926 to Daniel & Mildred (Karner) McKinnon. He was the second of 5 sons. Kenneth worked from the time he could carry home groceries for the mothers that walked back and forth to the grocery store in his neighborhood. He went on working in Detroit's eastern market until enlisting in the Navy on November 18, 1944 until June 19, 1946. He served as Seaman First Class on the destroyers, USS Edison (DD-439) and USS Robinson (DD-562). He served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. Upon his return from the war, he followed in his father's footsteps as a salesman driver for the Silver Cup Bread Company in Detroit. On September 6, 1947 he married Roberta Shirley "Bobbi" (Davis) McKinnon, in Wayne County, Michigan. He was a young man with many ideas and much ambition. In 1956, at the age of 30, Ken purchased his first of several businesses, Wayside Trailer Park in Muskegon, Michigan. Over the years Ken and Bobbi welcomed three children, Dan born in 1949, and just when they were set to adopt, they welcomed their son, Steve in 1961, and in 1965, their daughter Dawn. Ken brought many changes and upgrades to the trailer park on Whitehall Road, and also opened a successful business selling mobile homes nearby, later moving the sales lot to Apple Avenue in East Muskegon. After selling the trailer park in 1979 and closing the mobile home sales, he opened J & K Recreation, a go-kart track and arcade. Later, the arcade was transformed to become Grandpa's Restaurant. It was a special place where he met many wonderful people over the years. Ken was a member of Central Assembly of God for 36 years. Ken was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 45 years, and his brother Douglas McKinnon. SURVIVORS Ken is survived by his 3 children, Dan (Scharlett), Steve (Tami), and Dawn (Steve) Osburn, and 10 grandchildren, Shannon, Brent (Gina), Dan (Lisa), Matt (Carrie), Luke (Elizabeth), John (Rachel) and Katherine "Katie" (Trent) Dyer, Mackenzie Warner, David Osburn and Hannah Osburn, and 24 great grandchildren, Shannon (Cady), Hunter, Connor, Noah, Colton, Jaxon, Jackson, Jordan, Mercedes (Raymond) Marshall, Danny, Kenneth, Angelise, Cameron, Taylor, Ryan, Brynn, Nolan, Natalie, Maddilynn Dyer, Ethan Dyer, Maverick Dyer, Kira Warner, Jacob Warner, Aubrey Warner, and 7 great -great grandchildren, Irie, Evlie, Oliver, Lucy, Zion Marshall, Judah Marshall, Kinsley Marshall, his brothers, Karner McKinnon, Frank (Jennie) McKinnon, Marvin (Joyce) McKinnon and many nieces and nephews.
