Kathryn L. Dewall

Mrs. Kathryn L. DeWall, age 94, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, September 7, 2008. She was born October 11, 1913 to Louis and Lena (Pompstra) Poel. She married Cornelius (Casey) H. De Wall on December 5, 1935. Kathryn was an active member of the East and First Christian Reformed Churches. She faithfully visited sick and shut-ins and volunteered at the American Red Cross and Hackley Hospital for over 25 years. Kay was actively interested in her family's activities and prayed daily for each of her offspring. Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband, Casey (1987); son, Gordon DeWall; grandson, Brian DeWall; and brother, Howard Poel. Survivors include her children: Marilou Kratzenstein, her daughter-in-law, Joan DeWall, Kay (Donald) Slater, and Sheryl (Daniel) Beerens; grandchildren, AnnaMaria Gross, Claudia (Randall) Erickson, Mark (Jean) De Wall, Laura (Robert) Butrick, Lynda (Wayne) Faber, David (Kara) Slater, Steven Slater, Stephanie Beerens, and Julie Beerens; great-grandchildren, Christina & Katherine Gross, Leif & Ariana Erickson, Brandon & Reece Butrick, and Joel & Rachel Faber; brother, John and (Beatrice) Poel; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Poel. Visitation at The Lee Chapel Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 6291 S. Harvey St. (231) 798-1100 will be Sunday, Sept. 14, 6:30-8:30, and the memorial service will be at 1:00, on Monday, September 15, also at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Reformed Church or Western Michigan Christian High School.
