It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kathleen Sue Tomkins, age 75, who left this world peacefully on Wednesday, January 28, 2026. Born in Oak Park, IL on May 1, 1950, to Gerald and Susan (Bahus) Kupel, Kathy was a dedicated and nurturing soul whose warmth touched the lives of many.

Kathy grew up in Detroit, where she graduated from high school before pursuing her passion for caring for others at Oakland Community College, earning her associate's degree in nursing. She began her nursing career in Detroit and then went to Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey, MI, where she met the love of her life, Herb Tomkins. Their shared commitment to compassionate care blossomed into a beautiful partnership, culminating in their marriage on January 1, 1982.

Throughout her life, Kathy embraced a diverse array of interests. In addition to her profound dedication to nursing, she ventured into the arts as an independent graphic artist before returning to her calling in healthcare at Christian Care Nursing Home in Muskegon, where she eventually retired. Her creativity flourished through her love for clay sculptures and myriad arts and crafts projects. Kathy and Herb cherished a life enriched by travel, exploring destinations like Hawaii and the Cayman Islands, and even embarking on adventures as travel nurses in Florida during their earlier years.

Kathy is lovingly survived by her husband, Herb Tomkins; her brother, Gerald (Miki) Kupel; her sister, Lynny (Joe) Justasson; and her cherished nieces, Pamela, Kathy, and Chris. She is also survived by her brothers-in-law, Maurie and Dennis Tomkins, and sister-in-law, Diane.

While there will be no immediate services, we encourage friends and family to visit www.clockfuneralhome.com to leave a memory or sign the online guestbook in tribute to Kathy's rich and vibrant life.

In this difficult time, let us remember Kathy for the loving wife, sister, and friend she was, whose legacy of compassion and creativity will forever live on in our hearts.
