Katherine "Kitty" Lynne (Berry) Gietzen, age 76, passed away Wednesday,

April 26, 2023. She was born in Syracuse, NY on June 23, 1946 to Foster &

Martha (Chase) Berry. She married William Gietzen on December 8, 1984.

Kitty graduated from Muskegon Heights High School in 1964 and then from

Hackley School of Nursing in September 1967. She worked as a Registered

Nurse at Hackley Hospital for 49 years until retiring. Kitty was a member

of Lake Harbor United Methodist Church where she was a member of the First

Confirmation Class in June of 1958 and played Handbells there in her later

years. After retirement she pursued her interests in Muskegon history and

Victorian-era fashion and jewelry through memberships in the Greater

Muskegon Woman's Club and Shoreline Victorian Ladies Club. She was an

Amateur Radio Operator, KB8DPR. Kitty was an avid traveler and enjoyed

times in such diverse locales as Switzerland, Alaska in the winter and the

Shakespearean Theatre in Canada. Tops on her bucket list was her visit in

2022 to Shadows-On-The-Teche Plantation in Louisiana, associated with the

Berry Family for over 150 years. She had many special friendships and

greatly enjoyed those of her Churchill Girls which stretched back to

kindergarten.


SURVIVORS


Sister, Anne Chiappetta Taylor of Oregon, twin brother, Martin (Kathleen) Berry

PhD of Massachusetts, dear friend Jay Burrows; several nieces and nephews. She was

preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister Robin.

with Rev. Mary Ivanov officiating.
