Karl Koski

Karl Matthew Koski, age 68, passed away Saturday evening, July 21, 2007, at the Leila and Cyrus Poppen Hospice Residence. He was born November 28, 1938 to Arne Mattias and Lucy Miriam (Kauranen) Koski in Newberry, MI. Karl was a 1958 graduate of Muskegon High School. He had been employed in the maintenance department at the Kent City Schools for 16 years before retiring in 2001. Prior to that, he had worked at Safeway Lumber and A Foods. On September 28, 1979, he married the former Sylvia Irene Estabrook in Muskegon and she survives him. He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church. Karl was a quiet and gentle man of God. An artist and a woodcarver, he enjoyed the beauty of nature and the outdoors. He was a faithful and loving husband, as well as a true friend to many. In addition to his wife, Sylvia, Karl is also survived by 2 step-sons, Craig B. (Dianna) Estabrook of San Antonio, TX, Noel W. (Anita) Estabrook of Lansing; a step-daughter, Sheri L. Ackerberg of Oak Grove, KY; a brother, Arne J. (Peggy) Koski of Bolingbrook, IL; 4 sisters, Elsa (Ronald) Pesch of Muskegon, Bette (James) Westgate of Fremont, MI, Gail Vandervest of Monticello, FL and Maija (Jon) Hayes of Walsilla, AK; special cousin, Jean Torgerson of MN; special uncle, George (LaVonne) Stephenson of Newberry, MI; 10 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; very special sister-in-law, Cheryl (Thomas) Henry of Titusville, FL; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by both of his parents. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 11AM Thursday, July 26, 2007 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1206 Whitehall Rd., with Rev. William Uetricht officiating. VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Harbor Hospice or the First Lutheran Church Audio Loop Fund.
