It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Karen Dawn Nichols, who departed this life on November 1, 2026, at the age of 75. Born on October 25, 1951, in Fremont, Michigan, Karen was the treasured daughter of George and Dolores (Schroeder) McCastle. She graduated from Holton High School and went on to build a fulfilling career, first at Howmet for over 15 years and later as the office manager at SYP Trucking until her retirement.
Karen was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose spirit and kindness touched the lives of everyone around her. She is survived by her devoted daughters, Tiffany (Dallas) Jones Mann and Wendy Riegler, and her son, Eric Dilling (Cody) . She also holds in her memory her dearly departed son, Jared Nichols, who went before her. Karen's circle of love extended to her long-time friends Maureen Freeman, Bev Bramer, and Selma Brouhards, all of whom cherished her deeply.
In her most cherished role as a matriarch, Karen leaves behind a remarkable legacy of nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, each of whom carries a piece of her heart within them. The joy she found in her family was profound, and the bond she fostered will forever remain woven into the fabric of their lives.
Karen found beauty in the simple joys of life, often indulging in her passions for building dollhouses, working on puzzles, crocheting, and camping at several spots such as Wolf Lake and Big Blue Lake. These pursuits reflected her warmth and creativity, characteristics that her loved ones will forever hold close to their hearts.
Karen was preceded in death by her beloved son, Jared Nichols, her parents George and Dolores McCastle, her sisters Diane Lynn Moschke and Renee McCastle, and her son-in-law William Riegler. While their absence brought immense sorrow, their memories continued to be a source of comfort and strength for Karen.
Her life was a gift, and although she is no longer with us in the physical realm, the love she imparted will resonate through the generations. As her family prepares to celebrate her life, they plan to hold comforting services that will honor her memory and the indelible mark she left on their hearts. Details of the ceremonies will be announced in due course, allowing all who knew her to come together in reflection and remembrance.
A Celebration of Life for Karen will take place on Sunday, November 8, 2026 from 1-4 PM at the Holton American Legion. in lieu of flowes please consider donations to the Noah Project or the American Cancer Society.
As we say goodbye to Karen Dawn Nichols, we will forever carry with us the cherished moments shared, the lessons learned, and the love that will eternally bind us to her. Though unseen, she will live on in the stories we tell and the hearts we hold dear.
Forever loved, forever missed, and forever remembered. Rest peacefully, Karen Dawn Nichols. Your spirit continues to illuminate our lives and will never be forgotten.
