Karen Sue (McCann) McMahon, age 54, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Feb 22, 2022. Karen was born on Aug 6, 1967 in Muskegon MI to John and Marilyn (Carr) McCann. She was preceded in death by her husband of 24 years, Bruce McMahon, and her father, John McCann Sr. Karen is survived by her mother, Marilyn McCann; her brother, John (Danielle) McCann; niece, Veronica McCann; and nephews, John III and Jackson McCann. She is also survived by her stepdaughter, Ruth (James) Fellenz and her son, Andrew Garcia. Karen was a graduate of Muskegon High School and a proud member of the Big Red community. She lived her entire life in Muskegon where she felt safe and accepted by the community...it was home to her. Karen enjoyed the freedom of buzzing through downtown Muskegon on her scooter where she could watch her favorite musicals at the Frauenthal, enjoy summer concerts at Heritage Landing or visit the Muskegon library. Karen loved reading from a very young age, especially when reading was paired with chocolate...M&M's...plain. She was a self-proclaimed bookworm, as reading allowed her to venture without restrictions. She was a member of Kanai Church and found comfort and strength in her faith. Karen's biggest love in life, however, was her husband Bruce, with countless furbabies as close seconds. Together they could travel to Chicago and California, and together they were advocates for people with disabilities through their work at Disability Connect. Karen embodied perseverance throughout her life. To know Karen would be to know she was feisty and stubborn. She could tell you that herself. Being feisty and stubborn were also the traits that gave her the strength to overcome barriers and live her best life. Karen will be forever remembered and dearly missed, but her family and friends already find comfort in thinking of Karen RUNNING through the gates of heaven to a cheering entourage that has been eagerly waiting to embrace her. There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, March 5, 2022, at The Greater Muskegon Woman's Club at 2:00, followed by a luncheon. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Redefining Spina Bifida at " target="_blank">www.redefiningspinabifida.org The family would especially like to thank the caring staff at Medilodge at the Shore for the constant and attentive care to Karen.
