June Robertson was a woman who always felt so lucky, whether she was playing a game or spending time with her family. She faced many different challenges in her lifetime, yet June was a woman who always loved and appreciated the life she had. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, and a woman who was indeed lucky. We were even luckier to have known her. Junes story began on a warm summer day in 1929, in the shoreline city of Muskegon, Michigan. That summer was the calm before the terrible storm of the Great Depression, as the Roaring 20s drew to a close, and Prohibition was still law of the land. On June 9, 1929, Allen and Laura (Bently) Rosencrans celebrated the birth of a beautiful baby girl, a daughter they appropriately named June. June was the last of the couples five children, joining older siblings Jack, Millie, Murial and Don in the familys home in nearby Ravenna. Junes mother was charged with raising the family, and her father was a carpenter. The family moved to Eggleston Township during the Depression, and weathered the storm as best as possible. June remembered eating mustard sandwiches and wearing her mothers skirts growing up, and to help make ends meet during the difficult days of the Depression, her dad also worked as a bootlegger, making and selling his own moonshine! During her twenties and thirties she raised five children and occasionally worked outside the home. For a period of time she lived in California, but returned to her roots in Michigan and eventually owned her own home. Back home once again, June found plenty to keep her busy. She was always on the go, doing something all the time, from tending to her large garden (and canning the fruits of her labors), to putting together puzzles, to especially reading her supermarket tabloids (which she swore were always right!). June also loved playing bingo and going to the casinos, playing the slot machines, and always said she felt lucky. Oftentimes, she was right, and got on some great hot streaks over the years. Of course, June always felt luckiest when she was surrounded by her large family, and loved to visit them wherever they were. Junes smiling face was always a welcome sight, too. She was a tiny woman, just five foot four and 120 pounds, but she had a big personality, with a great sense of humor. She loved to pick on people, to see their reaction, and she loved to be picked on, too. June loved attention, and when she was around, you couldnt help but give it to her. June became ill in 2003, and moved in with her daughter, Diana and soninlaw John a couple of years later. All of her family felt she was an amazing motherinlaw. Sadly, her health continued failing, and she died on Monday, June 18, 2007, at the Poppen House hospice in Fruitport, Michigan. She was 78. June was a wonderful woman, who lived a wonderful life, a life full of love, laughter, and fond memories. She was a beloved wife, loving mother, grandmother and greatgrandmother, and a friend to many. Most of all, June was a woman who always felt lucky in life, but not as lucky as we were to have known her. She will be greatly missed. Surviving are her 2 sons, Terry (Diane) Musk of Muskegon, William (Susan) Robertson of GA; 3 daughters, April (Dan) Bouwman of Muskegon, Laura Gilman of Spring Lake, Diana (John) Zlotnicki of Fruitport; 13 grandchildren, Christa, Tiffany, Aaron, Katie, William, Melissa, Diana, Carly, Sarah, Zachary, Dena, Becky 6 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Jack Rosencrans of Muskegon; several nieces & nephews.
