Mr. Juane A. Baker, age 86, died Saturday, June 9, 2007. He was born June 5, 1921 in Raymond, Minnesota to Arthur and Carrie (Meyers) Baker and had lived in Muskegon for most of his life. Mr. Baker served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII in the South Pacific, and was a member of the VFW Post 8846. Juane worked for Teledyne Continental Motors for 37 years before retiring in 1982. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he served as Building Chairman of the new church in 1964, and had also been a past member of the Church Council. Mr. Baker was a past member of the Board of Education at Gustafson School, past member of the first Board of Muskegon County Commissioners, served as Muskegon Township Supervisor and Trustee, past President of the Michigan Township Association, honorary member of the East Muskegon Lions Club, member of the U.A.W. Local 113 Retirees and former Vice Chairman, and a member of the Old Newsies. On February 27, 1947 he married the former Winifred D. Zayaz in Muskegon and she survives him along with two children, Karen (Gary) Tornga of Muskegon, James (Carla) Baker of Traverse City; six grandchildren, Gregory (Dr. Jessica Horsfall) Tornga, Peter (Rachel) Tornga, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Tornga, Mara (Nicholas Bihler) Tornga, Jesse (Kristina) Baker, Rebecah Baker; two great-grandchildren, Rylan and Cole Tornga; brother, Glen (Marge) Baker of Muskegon; sister, Shirley Koekkoek of Muskegon; several nieces and nephews; and his loyal friend, Chance. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Marcus Baker; brother, Myron Baker; and two sisters, Leora Tuftadal and Muriel Bond. SERVICES will be 11:00 AM Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Julie Winklepleck officiating. Burial will be in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. VISITATION will be from 6-8 PM Tuesday at The Sytsema Chapel Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 737 Apple Ave. (231) 726-5210 MEMORIALS to Hackley Visiting Nurse Services Hospice, Immanuel Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, or the Alzheimer's Association will be appreciated.
