Joy An Hayward
Joy An Hayward, age 83, of Montague, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, August 17, 2026.
Born in Muskegon on July 9, 1943, to George and Vera (Loree) Hayward, Joy was a lifelong resident of the White Lake area. She attended Whitehall schools and dedicated many years of her career as a housekeeper at a local nursing home.
Though a private person, Joy found great happiness in life's simple pleasures. She was a familiar sight around Montague, navigating the town on her scooter. In her younger years, she was a devoted grandmother, never missing her grandchildren's sporting events. She was an avid reader and cherished memories of family camping trips along the Pine River. Ever adventurous, Joy celebrated her final years with gusto, even conquering a zip line at the Muskegon Winter Sports Park this summer.
She is lovingly remembered by her son, John (Sandy) Pickett of Muskegon; her daughter, Serina (Mike Schoonfield) McClees of Montague; four grandchildren: Cassie (Grant) Gillish, Cody (Amanda) McClees, Kara (Adam) Felt, and Nikki (Dave) Robb; and eleven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Glen Hayward.
In keeping with Joy's wishes, no formal services will be held. Her family will honor her memory with a private scattering of her cremated remains at a favorite family spot on the Pine River.
